Dosage: For chronic pain, start at 50 mg; acute pain may require initial 100 mg. Repeat every 4–6 hours as needed, not exceeding 400 mg/day

Sustained‑release form available (100 mg SR): taken once every 12 hours with maximum daily dose of 400 mg

Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to tramadol, acute intoxication with alcohol, sedatives, opioids, or psychotropic drugs; avoid MAO inhibitors combinations

Side Effects: Common—dizziness, nausea, constipation, headache, drowsiness, vomiting, itching, dry mouth, diarrhea. Less common—weight loss, palpitations, GI or allergic reactions. May depress respiratory function at high doses or with CNS depressants

Warnings: Risk of opioid dependence with prolonged use; avoid combining with CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, opioids); use cautiously with carbamazepine, head injury, high intracranial pressure, or respiratory risk patients
