💡 Uses & Benefits

📋 Dosage & Administration

⚠️ Side Effects & Precautions

  • Common side effects: headache, dry mouth, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, drowsiness, dizziness 

  • Less common/rare effects: galactorrhea, gynecomastia, decreased libido, extrapyramidal symptoms (especially in young children), skin rash, constipation, allergic reactions, and cardiac arrhythmias in high-risk patients

  • Precautions:

    • Avoid use in neonates, known prolactin-releasing pituitary tumors, GI obstruction, perforation, or hemorrhage

    • Use caution in children (<2 yr), elderly, or patients with liver/kidney impairment due to higher risk of side effects


🧪 Drug Interactions & Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in those with known hypersensitivity to domperidone or significant GI obstruction/bleeding/perforation or prolactinoma

  • Use caution or avoid co-use with MAO inhibitors, opioid analgesics, anticholinergics, and CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, erythromycin, ritonavir) which may raise domperidone levels and increase QT-prolongation risk


🤰 Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Not recommended during pregnancy—animal studies show potential fetal risk; human safety not established

  • Breastfeeding: Domperidone passes into breastmilk in low amounts; may increase prolactin levels and lactation—but advise caution and medical supervision
