💡 Use & Benefits

  • Treats respiratory infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis

  • Effective for urinary tract infections (UTIs)—both uncomplicated and complicated cases

📋 Dosage & Administration

  • Typical adult dose ranges from 200 mg to 800 mg daily, depending on infection severity

    • Example: Enteric fever – 200 mg every 12 hours for 5 days

    • Shigellosis – single dose of 400 mg

    • Respiratory & skin infections – 400 mg daily or as advised

  • Should be swallowed whole with water; avoid antacids or iron, zinc within 2 hours before or after dosing to ensure absorption

  • No dosage adjustments generally needed in elderly, but modification may be necessary in renal/hepatic impairment cases 


⚠️ Side Effects & Precautions

  • Common side effects: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, rash, headache, dizziness, and insomnia 

    Eye irritation or mild ear discomfort possible when using eye/ear drops variant

  • Not recommended in: pregnancy, breastfeeding, epilepsy, children/adolescents, or those with known fluoroquinolone allergy 

  • Patients should avoid prolonged sun/UV exposure due to photosensitivity risk

  • Use caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment, requiring dosage adjustment
